Dr. Colby Swan, Associate Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Dr. Swan has considerable expertise in computational mechanics, software development, and mechanics of textile composite materials.  He will be applying this expertise in the mathematical modeling of clothing aspects of this research effort with the specific objective of realistically quantifying the impact of different types of clothing on the performance of both real and Digital Human Models. The impacts of different clothing types on human models will be measured experimentally in this project with motion capture analysis conducted by Dr. Swan.  Dr. Swan's research is focused on two topics: (a) understanding the mechanics of clothing including the creation of computational models and (b) predicting the properties of textile material given their weaving methods.
